Even after 70 years of independence, there is a section of our society that has not been able to break free from its narrow mindset. It is a segment of male dominated society that considers women inferior to men and deprives them of the respect they deserve. Women are the mother of a society and a good society can never be built without respecting women. There are women in the society who decide to fight for their rights. In Surprising Courage in Distress' is the story of Rouhana, a girl who does not lose hope even under adverse circumstances and bravely fights for her rights and achieves her goal. Ruhana becomes a role model for society.

Born into a poor Muslim family in Pratapgarh, Rouhana is a loving daughter of her parents. Her parents want to educate her so that she can succeed in life. Ruhana is also a hardworking girl. The small family is overjoyed, but one day Abbu (Ruhana's father) dies in an accident. A major struggle for the family begins. Poverty has become a nightmare for them. Ruhana gets the news that her school has organized a race with prize money of Rs 5000. Ruhana enters her name for the race. She hides this from her mother Shabana as she will not let Rouhan participate in the race due to the board exams. Abhishek is a sports teacher at Ruhana's school and he is coaching all the participants for this race. Abhishek is very diligent in rules. He gets impressed by Rouhana's hardwork and trains him specifically.

Meanwhile, Rouhana's distant relative, Bilal comes to India from Dubai to visit a property. Bilal is saddened by the death of his cousin and helps his family in this difficult time. Ruhana takes Bilal as Father Figure. After some time, he goes back to Dubai. Shabana starts working in a shop. She makes mistakes and is insulted. It is painful for Ruhana and so she trains her mother about all the products in the shop. This made Shabana's work very easy. Rouhana fulfills all the responsibilities of the family and at the same time prepares for race and board examinations.

Bilal comes back to India and this time he goes to see Shabana, Ruhana's girl for marriage. He dismisses the girl and Rouhana makes fun of the whole incident. One day, Bilal is sitting with his friends and they talk about marriage. Her friends advise her to marry Ruhana because she feels she loves him so she is getting so close to him. This changes Bilal's way of thinking and he puts this proposal in front of Shabana. He also causes problems in Ruhana's school life. Shabana asks Bilal to leave them which makes him furious and he decides to take revenge on them. He also attacks Abhishek in despair.

Shabana and Rouhana forget all this and start living happily. Ruhana not only comes first in the race but also topped the board exam. Everything is going well but suddenly something happens that raises a big question on her future, her dreams, her life. An acid attack that burns not only his body but also his dreams. His future depends on his determination. Will the second-class hypocritical people of the society survive against the strong-willed and strong-minded girl?
